Este vídeo conta a história de Dado e Maria Banatao da PhilDev Foundation e foi feito com um ajuda da minha #instagramfriend Bailey. Eu adorei ouvir esta história porque é semelhante à das minhas origens. Os meus avós, também nasceram no Portugal rural e decidiram que queriam uma vida melhor para os seus filhos. À minha avó foi negado o direito de estudar quando tinha cerca de 10 anos porque era uma menina. Ela decidiu só se iria apaixonar por alguém que quisesse abandonar aquela vida rural. Quando veio para a cidade com o meu avô e a sua filha (a minha mãe) viveram algum tempo num quarto apenas, e aproveitaram todas as oportunidades para trabalhar arduamente para que a minha mãe e os seus irmão pudessem estudar sem ter de trabalhar. A minha avó lia todos os dias sedenta do conhecimento que lhe tinha sido negado. A minha mãe licenciou-se, e com meu pai todos os dias nos fez compreender que o melhor legado que nos poderiam dar era o de uma boa formação escolar. O meu pai começou a trabalhar quando tinha 14 anos para ajudar a sua mãe viúva. Estudou muito à noite e terminou o ensino secundário quando já era pai. Nem meus pais nem os meus avós ricos, mas tinham a melhor riqueza de todas, tal como o pai do Dado: visão e amor. Obrigada Bailey por partilhares esta história e por ajudares a mudar algumas vidas!
A Bailey “nunca tinha ouvi falar de Dado Banatao antes do Elmer lhe falar sobre ele. O Chipset e a arquitetura de gráficos do Dado são a base de todos os computadores pessoais que usamos hoje. Mas o que é mais incrível sobre Dado é de onde ele vem, ele nasceu nas Filipinas rurais, o filho de um fazendeiro sem acesso à eletricidade ou até mesmo sapatos. Hoje, Dado e sua esposa Maria estão fazendo tudo que podem para dar a mais filipinos as oportunidades que o Dado teve.
A história de Dado nunca tinha sido contada e o nosso objectivo, do Garrett, Kris, Briene, Wyatt, Elmer e eu, com esta curta-metragem foi fazer exatamente isso. This video tells the story of Dado and Maria Banatao’s PhilDev Foundation and was made with the help of my #instagramfriend Bailey. I loved hearing his story because it is somehow similar to my roots. My grandparents where also born in rural portugal and decided they wanted a better life for their children. My grandmother was denied the right to study when she was about 10 because she was a girl. She decided that she would only fell in love with someone who would want to leave that rural life. When she came to the city with my grandfather and her daughter (my mom) they lived in a room for sometime and took every chance they had to work hard so that my mum and her sibblings didn’t have to and could study. She read everyday eager for the knowledge she was denied. My mum got to have a degree. And along side with my father they all ,ade us understand that education was their best legacy and our best chance in life. My father started working when he was 14 to help his widowed mum and studyed hard at night and graduated from highschool when he had already to children. Nor my parents or my grandparents were wealthy but they had the best resources: vision and love. Thank you Bailey for sharing this story and to make a change in some lives!
Bailey had “never heard of Dado Banatao before Elmer told me about him. Dado’s chipset and graphics architecture innovations are the foundation of every personal computer we use today. But what’s most incredible about Dado is where he comes from—he was born in the rural Philippines, the son of a farmer without access to electricity or even shoes. Today, Dado and his wife Maria are doing everything they can to give more Filipinos the opportunities Dado had.
Dado’s story had never been told, and Garrett, Kris, Briene, Wyatt, Elmer and my goal with this short film was to do just that.
